BRIDGES AND WATER ARCHES

Zagnospasa Bridge

It connects the dungeon gate and the Imaret Gate and it is a bridge with two arches on top of each other. Historical sources say that there is a wooden bridge that descends in this place. Roman and Byzantine craftsmanship is observed on the bridges. Researchers have identified four building phases on the bridge. After the repair of Zağnos Pasha in the 15th century, the bridge was overhauled.

 

Tannery Bridge

It was founded on the east of Ortahisar on Kuzgun Creek. The first founding of the Roman period l. century. Evliya Çelebi writes that the bridge is the structure of Karakoyunlu people. It is now Ottoman structure and the last form of the 19th century.

 

Değirmendere Bridge

It is a four-eyed bridge built by the Nemlizads in 1891.

Trabzon is rich in waters and fountains. In the city during the Ottoman period, close to 100 fountains were fed from spring waters. İskenderpaşa Fountain, Kabak Square Şadırvanı, Seyyit Mehmet Fountain and Abdullah Paşa Fountain are important fountains.

 

Abdullah Pasha Fountain

It is located at the east entrance of Zağnospaşa Tower. Çeşme was built in front of the water maxim in Taksim Square. When expanding the streets, they were disassembled and placed in their present place.

Çeşme was built in 1844 by Trabzon Governor Haznedarzade Abdullahpaşa. Rectangular shaped facade is a structure in empirical style. It consists of a few stepped eaves and ornamented crown. Feather stylized tree of life motifs. There are badges in the upper corners. There are nine lines in 18 lines on the mirror. It is one of the best examples of the fountains in the empirical style.

 

Abdülhamit Fountain

Iskender Pasha is in the neighborhood. Made in 1891. It has a rectangular shape divided into four sections by fluted columns. Column heads and bases are decorated with acanthus leaves. Sultan Abdülhamit has a monogram above the canopy.

 

Imaret Creek Aqueduct

It is on the Imaret Creek on the western slope of Trabzon Castle. It was built by Iustinianus in the 6th century. He then underwent several repairs. Today's aqueduct is the 13th century structure. 30 m. in length, 7 m. The height of the bridge is five-eyed. Water can be seen in the surrounding rocks.

 

Kuzgundere Aqueduct

Kuzgundere is located on the east of the castle. It is a 13th century structure. Cut and made of rubble stone, 8 m. in length, 6 m. The height of the arch is known as Köprü Thin Bridge yüksek.Poplar Aqueduct

It is dated to the 13th century in Yenicuma neighborhood. Cut and rubble stone structure 20 m. length of 7 m. in height.
